Most of us move through our careers making decisions based on what we think we should want. The job with the best title. The company with the biggest name. The path that looks the most impressive from the outside.
And then we get there and something still feels off. Not wrong exactly, just not quite right. Like weâre doing the work but not really living the life.
A lot of the time, that gap comes down to values. When the work youâre doing or the environment youâre in doesnât line up with what actually matters to you, no amount of success closes the distance. But when there is alignment, even hard days feel like theyâre pointing somewhere worth going.
The Core Values Exploration Worksheet is a simple, powerful tool for getting clear on what you actually stand for.
Youâll start by looking through a list of twenty-four values and identifying the ten that resonate most. From there, you narrow it down to your top five, and then you write a brief explanation of why each one matters to you. That last part is where the real work happens. Because knowing that âintegrityâ or âfreedomâ or âfamilyâ is important to you is one thing. Being able to articulate what it actually means in your life and why you canât compromise it is something else entirely.
That clarity is what makes career decisions easier. Itâs what helps you recognize a good opportunity from one that only looks good on paper. And itâs what gives you something solid to come back to when the noise gets loud and youâre not sure which direction to go.
