The first time I recorded a podcast episode about being a trauma survivor entrepreneur, I showed up polished. Put together. Completely inauthentic.
A part of me wouldnât let the truth come out.
So my colleague Holly and I hit record again. That second time, I showed up messy. Vulnerable. Real. And it changed everything about how I understood what I was actually building.
Because hereâs what I wish someone had told me before I started: entrepreneurship doesnât fix the hard stuff. It comes with you. It lives in your body, shows up in your capacity, and influences every decision you make, from how you price your offers to whether you send that email.
Thatâs not a warning. Itâs actually the most important thing you can know going in.
The Gap Nobody Talks About
Most entrepreneurship training assumes a baseline that many of us donât have.
The launch strategies, the email sequences, the âscale fastâ frameworks: theyâre built for a nervous system that isnât carrying what yours might be carrying. They donât account for the therapy session that takes up half your capacity on a Tuesday. They donât account for the fact that sending 20,000 high-pressure sales emails might feel genuinely activating to you, not just strategically wrong.
So you end up taking good advice that doesnât fit. And when it doesnât work, you assume something is wrong with you.
There isnât. The advice just wasnât built for you.
What I had to learn, slowly and through a lot of trial and error, is that every strategy has to go through a different filter first. Not âwill this work?â but âcan I actually do this in a way that doesnât cost me more than it returns?â
That question changes everything about how you build.
If you are ready to move from understanding what you are feeling to knowing what to do about it, the rest of this article is waiting for you inside The Resilient Career Academy. I would love to have you there.
