Live with Patrick LaRose and Cyndi Bennett

A recording from Cyndi Bennett and Patrick LaRose's live video

My First Substack Live with Patrick LaRose

I joined Patrick LaRose, nurse, coach, and creator of The Second Shift, for my first Substack Live this month. We planned for 30 minutes and talked for nearly an hour. Apparently, we had a few things to say. LOL.

We explored how trauma patterns can shape our careers, including people-pleasing, perfectionism, staying small around authority, and feeling like we always have something to prove. We talked about nursing and leadership, but these experiences can follow us into any workplace.

One thread kept coming up:

Looking capable on the outside doesn’t tell anyone how hard we’re working underneath it all.

We also talked about what change can look like. Recognizing a pattern is a beginning. Practicing a different response takes time, support, and small steps that account for our capacity. And those steps deserve to be celebrated.

We made room for another question, too: what strengths have we been overlooking because they come so naturally that we assume everyone has them?

I left feeling grateful for the conversation and excited to have more of them. If you’ve been struggling at work while wondering why you can’t simply push through, I hope you’ll hear this:

Your struggles don’t erase your capabilities. Your voice, your needs, and your career matter.
